Janet Larue Grimes was born on February 11, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA to Joseph and Elizabeth Fleming Grimes. She grew up in Windber, PA the oldest of 4 sisters, Jean, Cathy, and Mary Jo who she loved dearly.
In 1947, Janet started dating William “Bill” Zepka when their love story began. He graduated high school and enlisted in the Army after graduation. Janet and Bill continued to date. Janet graduated from Windber High School in 1951. She worked at the Johnstown Tribune Democrat. Janet and Bill married on November 26,1955 in Windber Pa.
Janet and Bill started their family in Pennsylvania where Victor, Kevin, Sammy, and Betsy were born. In July 1963, Bill and Janet moved their family to Alexandria, Va where they established their roots. Janet began working for the A&P Grocery store where she was head cashier. Janet loved working in the service industry and helping people. She enjoyed the relationship she had with her co-workers and regular customers.
Their youngest daughter Candace was born in 1971. Janet continued to work while raising her 5 children. She enjoyed attending their school events and being actively involved in everything they did.
Janet retired from A&P in 1992. At this time, they became snowbirds in Miami Beach, FL. They became full time residents of Florida in 1999. Janet and Bill lived in Melbourne, Florida until Bill’s death. In 2008, Janet moved to Fort Lauderdale with her son Victor. During this time she continued to return to Melbourne, FL and Alexandria, VA to spend quality time with her other children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She continued to be actively involved in all of their activities. For the past two years, Janet remained in Fort Lauderdale where Victor dedicated his life to making sure she was taken care of to always look her best and feel her best.
Janet was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She attended all of their events whether it be sporting events or Miss Florida Pageants. She especially loved her role as “Grammie” to Amanda, Allison, Billy, Jessica, Jennifer. She loved babysitting, playing games and cards, and spending quality time. More recently, she has enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren Melani and Amiyah “Larue” carrying her name on. She was committed to her family and they were always her first priority.
Janet joined her sons Sammy and Kevin and his wife Anneli, along with her husband Bill in Heaven. She is survived by her immediate family. The children Victor (only child Madonna) Betsy (husband Matt, children Amanda, Allison, grandchildren Melani and Amiyah, Candace (husband Rob, children Jessica and Jennifer), daughter in law Isabella (children Billy, Brenda, and Barbara) and her faithful companion, Sonny.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the Life Event Center of Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US-1 Rockledge, FL 32955 for a viewing from 1:30 - 2:30pm, followed by a prayer vigil with Deacon Sergio, presiding and words of reflection by son, Victor. The family will then process to the cemetery located directly outside the Life Event Center where Janet will be laid to rest next to her late husband and 2 sons.
