Mr. John Alfred Smith, Sr., age 92, of Delray Beach, Florida died on Wednesday, October 3, 2019.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. John was a retired union electrician from Camden, NJ and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Mr. Smith also served in the US Army and was an avid yachtsman and traveler, where he enjoyed driving to as many states as possible and made 2 cruises through Alaska.
John was always there to help with projects around the house from pouring concrete to replacing the front doors or rebuilding car motors. He was known to recue stranded boaters with his own boat, towing them back to shore safely. He loved the holidays or special events that would bring so many people together where he could share with them the love that he had been filled with.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence and a daughter, Jaqueline Arment.
He is survived by daughters, Linda Lucera, Sandra Wilson, Nancy C. Hennessey; son, John A. Smith, Jr., 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and other relatives.
Visitation for Mr. Smith will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 11:00am until noon at McWhite’s, 3501 W Broward Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312.
Military graveside services will be held at 12:15pm at Lauderdale Memorial Park, 2001 SW 4th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315. Military honors will be accorded by the US Army and the American Legion Post, 222.
